Founder , Ask For Clive

Clive Duffey is a leading LGBTQ+ advocate, community organiser, and co‑founder of the national inclusion campaign Ask for Clive. Based in Hertfordshire, he has spent more than three decades championing equality, visibility, and wellbeing for LGBTQ+ people across the UK.
Clive’s work spans twenty-six years in corporate hospitality, venue management and event production namely at Knebworth and the society calendar events of the UK’s social season. He then took a career change into public health. He is a Director of Herts Pride, the region’s largest LGBTQ+ celebration, and a Director of the Hertfordshire LGBTQ Health & Wellbeing CIC, where he supports training, outreach, and initiatives that promote safety, inclusion, and mental, sexual and physical wellbeing. An advisor to Herts Police and several equality forums.
In 2019, Clive co‑founded Ask for Clive, a campaign that encourages pubs, bars, venues, and organisations to display a visible pledge against discrimination. The initiative has grown into a recognised national symbol of allyship, adopted by thousands of venues and supported by local authorities, police forces, and major events. Clive plays a central role in public engagement, training, and strategic development for the campaign.
Clive’s career includes work in sexual health and HIV awareness, including roles with the Terrence Higgins Trust, where he contributed to education, prevention, clinical and community support programmes.
His long‑standing commitment to equality has earned him regional recognition, including being named one of the “100 People Who Have Made Watford” for his impact on community cohesion and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Clive is a regular speaker, trainer, and advisor to organisations seeking to improve LGBTQ+ awareness and inclusive practice. His work continues to influence policy, shape safer spaces, and strengthen community networks across Hertfordshire and beyond.
