Tennent’s has expanded its draught beer range with the launch of Tennent’s Stout, marking the return of a beer style closely connected to the Glasgow brewer’s history.

Brewed to 4.0% ABV, the new stout is described as rich, smooth and creamy, with roasted notes of chocolate, liquorice, treacle and coffee. It has moderate bitterness and a smooth finish designed to offer a sessionable serve.

Available exclusively in the on-trade, Tennent’s Stout can be poured in either one or two parts without affecting its taste or appearance. It will be served in dedicated glassware featuring the brand’s red T within prominent ‘STOUT’ lettering.

The beer received its initial launch at Glasgow’s Òran Mór and the Tennent’s Visitor Centre on 8 September, ahead of a wider rollout to pubs across Scotland from the end of the month.

While the brewer is now best known for Tennent’s Lager, stout played an important role in its early development. Stouts were being produced at Wellpark in Glasgow during the 18th century and helped Tennent’s establish an international reputation as a bottled beer exporter.

Tennent’s has continued to produce Export Stout for overseas markets, but the latest launch represents a return to the category for its domestic customers. It follows renewed consumer interest in stout and other darker styles of beer, giving Scottish pubs a new locally brewed option within the growing category.
