The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), Partner of The Pub Show, has launched a new, sector-wide graduate scheme designed to create a clear and accessible route into the UK’s pubs and brewing industry.
The BBPA Academy brings together twelve leading national and regional pub companies and brewers to offer graduates a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of the industry, from brewing and operations to people management, HR and commercial functions.
Over a two-year programme, graduates will progress through structured six-month modules within a host business, gaining practical industry experience alongside technical training, development workshops, seminars and formal review sessions. The scheme is designed to support professional development while giving participants a broad understanding of how pubs and breweries operate.
Emma McClarkin OBE, Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said: “Delighted to share that the BBPA Academy has launched. It will give graduates the chance to gain first class experience and be supported by some of the UK’s leading pub companies and breweries. Having some of the best in the business collaborate on the Academy is proof that the sector is committed to investing in the next generation of the sector’s guardians, and creating pathways into our sector for the long term.”
The Academy has been developed in collaboration with Admiral Taverns, Adnams, Daniel Thwaites, Everards, Greene King, Hall & Woodhouse, McMullen, Molson Coors Brewing Company UK, Robinsons Brewery & Pubs, Star Pubs, St Austell Brewery and Timothy Taylor’s Brewery. Coordination of the programme is led by Su Cacioppo of J D Wetherspoon.
For Everards, Admiral and McMullen, the programme will offer eight-month rotations across each company over the two-year period, while all other participating businesses will host graduates for the full duration of the scheme.
By opening up structured entry points into the sector, the BBPA Academy aims to help address skills needs across pubs and brewing, while supporting the next generation of industry talent at the start of their careers.
Graduates can apply directly to their preferred participating company and will complete an assessment process and CV submission as part of the application.
The initiative reflects the industry’s collective commitment to people, skills and long-term sustainability — values that sit at the heart of The Pub Show and the wider hospitality community.
